Hello again! At this time in school I am learning about the ancient civilization: Mesopotamia. We are doing a simulation were the people in our class are split into 5 clans: the Medes, Babylions, Hittites, Phoenicians and the Persians. And we are battling for the rule of Mesopotamia. I am part of the Babylions. Each week we do something called an Empires Task. And we go through the stages of civilization: Tribe to village to city-state to empires and each week we go through a different stage and do a different task. Each time you study a different thing out of these: Arts, Architecture and public works, Centralized Government, Orgininized Religion, Job Specialization and Social Classes and Writing. The better quality of the task the more points you get, and the clan with the most points wins. There is also a map that you can move armies on and fight for resources:
There are a total of four tasks and for my first task I was studying Arts Architecture and puplic works and I made a poem:
In this task I wrought about how the Mesopotamians used art. The made statues of the gods and tapestrys of royalty and nature, and they made lots of jewelry. There was lots of art in temples and scribes use stone tablites to wright. For my second task I sudied Orginized Religion and I made a slide show on google slides:
I learned a lot about the gods and goddesses of Mesopotamia, as well as the priests, and their job. Did you know that a priest was equal in power and honor with the king? I also learned about what people would do to keep the gods happy, this was considered top priority. People would sacrifice things and build temples and shrines to honor the gods.
For my third task I made a poster about Centralized Government
The rulers of Mesopotamia passed rule from father to son, this means that they were hereditary leaders. The leaders also claimed that their right to rule came from the will of the gods.
And for my last task I made a diorama and typed a paper about Job Specialization and Social Classes
The diorama shows how slavery worked in Mesopotamia and the paper explains what the people in the diorama are doing. Slavery was very popular but slaves were mostly owned by the people of the upper class, royalty and the weathy. Slaves were bought and sold like milk from the store, and most of them were criminals or prisoners from war. This project was very hard but I am proud of what I did.
untill next time!
